Aromatherapy Has Many Benefits For Your Dog

Written by Melissa Sutton | June 1, 2011 at 4:42 pm

This treatment has been proven to give immediate, long-lasting and extensive results on the dog`s overall health. Dogs can get stressed out if they are left alone for a long time, have unhealthy food to eat, or don`t get any attention at all.

Some of the health problems this can cause include ear infections, bites, rashes, hot spots, fatigue, shedding and even aggression. You can use aromatherapy to help with these problems, plus scrapes, bad breath, cuts, incisions from surgeries and flatulence. It is important to help them deal with depression, stress and loneliness to ensure they are healthy and happy.

For your dog`s ear infection, you can get a spray bottle and put a base oil in it. Add these oils to coat the inside of the eat after cleaning; Lavender, which relieves itching and soothes skin; Tea Tree, which is an antifungal and antibacterial; Bergamot, which has antifungal properties and Roman Chamomile, which assists in healing tissue and is gentle and soothing.

If you are wanting to repel fleas, use Clary Sage, Lemon, Peppermint and Citronella essential oils. To rid your dog of ticks, use the essential oils of Geranium, Myrrh, Lavender and Bay. You should use 15 to 20 drops of these oils and dilute with a base oil. Spray your dog daily to keep fleas and ticks away.

To help relieve your dog`s stress, mix 6 drops of Lavender, 4 drops of Marjoram and 1 drop of  Nerole and use a carrier oil of Sweet Almond oil or Jojoba. Put it on the dog`s head and spine rather lightly. Reapply if necessary.

To reduce your dog`s hyperactivity and nervousness, to a carrier oil add 6 drops of Lavender, 4 drops of Petitgrain and 2 drops of Roman Chamomile and apply lightly to head and spine.

Keep in mind your dog`s sense of smell is quite keen so introduce him to essential oils slowly and start with small amounts. For more info, you can visit: www.aromatherapies.net
