Slippery Elm Recipe To Soothe You Pet`s Tummy; Includes Many Pets!
This nutritive herb has a slight astringent quality and is also an emollient. It has lots of mucilage that will disperse inflammation, draw out impurities, soothe irritation and heal quickly. The action of this herb is so gentle that even delicate stomachs can handle it when other substances have not been tolerated.
Slippery elm is extremely soothing to the mucus membranes of the mouth and the whole gastrointestinal tract. This herb can be used for vomiting, colic, IBD, ulcers and diarrhea. It has a mild, pleasant taste and also has minerals and vitamins. Animals old and young can take this herb easily, even picky ferrets and cats.
For the recipe you will; Put 1/2 cup of cool purified water into a glass or stainless steel sauce pan. Add one slightly rounded teaspoon of Slippery elm powder, or you can open and empty 5 capsules into the pan. Whisk with a fork until powder blends with cool water. Don`t use warm water or it will clump.
Bring the mixture to a simmer over a low flame, stirring constantly. Simmer for about 2 minutes or until slightly thickened to a syrupy consistency. Cool mixture and store in a glass jar with tight fitting lid in refrigerator for 7 to 8 days. as per www.articlealley.com
You can just add the dry powder to the animals soft food to help soothe their tummys as well. For Dogs, depending on the size, give 1 to 3 teaspoons of slippery elm syrup before every meal, 2 to 3 times a day.
For Ferrets and Cats, give 1 teaspoon of Slippery elm syrup before every meal.
For Birds, you will ‘lightly salt’ the powdered herb over their food.
For Horses, give 2 to 4 teaspoons of the powder, mixed in 3/4 cup yogurt and/or 2 tablespoons honey, 3 times a day, for 5 days. You can make a tea with the herb, using 1 liter of water ( and same amount of powder) and adding to their grain twice a day.
