For Thanksgiving, Make Your Pooch A “Meaty Stew”, Plus “Gravy Loaf For Fido” & “Best Dog Biscuits”
If you`re looking for some new recipes to fix for your dog/cat this Thanksgiving, check these out! First, there`s;
Meaty Stew
2/3 cup turkey, liver or hamburger
1/2 cup rice, cooked
1/4 cup potato
1/2 a carrot
1 cup water
Slice up the meat, potato and carrot. Add all ingredients to the pot with 1 cup water after water comes to a boil. Cook for about 15 to 20 minutes. Add cooked rice and cook for about 2 more minutes. Strain and let cool before serving. This can be doubled and divided up into serving portions and froze for easy access.
Next, is;
Gravy Loaf for Fido
1 lb. chopped liver
3 small potatoes, cooked
2 chopped carrots, cooked
1 cup cooked brown rice
A bunch of Kale
1/2 cup fish broth
Mince potatoes and carrots. Shred Kale. Mix ingredients together and blend in blender. Warm on stove. Heat fish broth and pour warm over blended mixture. Serve or freeze in serving size portions.
Next is;
Best Dog Biscuits
3 1/2 cups flour
2 cups Whole Wheat flour
1 cup Rye flour
1 cup Cornmeal
2 cups Cracked Wheat
4 teaspoons salt
1/2 cup dry milk
1 egg
1 package dry yeast (1 tablespoon)
1 pint Chicken Stock
For ingredients that are not usually found in the grocery store may be found at most health food stores. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. Add chicken stock and pour into dry ingredients. Knead for 3 minutes, working into a stiff dough. Roll dough into a 1/4 inch thick sheet and cut with cookie cutters, such as cutters shaped like dog bones/biscuits. Bake in a 300 degree F. oven for 45 minutes, then turn oven off and leave biscuits in oven overnight. In the morning, the biscuits will be bone hard. NOTE: This dough is extremely stiff to work with, but the final product is excellent!
For your pooch`s dessert, make some;
Yogurt Popsicles
32 oz. plain yogurt
3/4 of an oz. of water
1 teaspoon chicken bouillon
Dissolve bouillon. Mix bouillon water and yogurt in blender. Freeze in popsicle holders or small plastic containers for each serving size. For more recipes, check out: www.freedogfoodrecipes.com
