Happy Thanksgiving To You, Your Family & Your Pet! Make Your Horse A Warm, Thanksgiving Mash!

Written by Melissa Sutton | November 24, 2011 at 7:17 pm

Not only will we put on the feed bag today, but we can also make our horses a wonderful;

Thanksgiving Mash

Hot Water

Dollop of Molasses

Handful of Brown Sugar

2 Carrots, shredded

1 Apple, chopped

6 cups Bran Mash

Your horse`s daily Grain Ration, either morning or evening

2 cups of Apple Juice

Mix all ingredients together in a large  bucket. Pour just enough hot water on top to resemble a soupy oatmeal. Let the mixture sit for a few minutes or until the Bran has absorbed the water and is cool enough to eat. Pour the Apple Juice on top and serve.  as per  www.horsechannel.com

You can change up the ingredients by using chopped up corn, still on the cob, Applesauce, Dollop of Corn Oil, Carrot Tops, store bought horse cookies/treats or use your horse`s favorites!

Another great treat is;

Imbir`s Horse Treats

1 cup Sweet Feed

2 cups Bran

1 cup Flax Seed

4 large Carrots

1 cup Molasses

1/2 cup Brown Sugar

1 cup Applesauce

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix together the Molasses, Brown Sugar, Carrots and Applesauce in one bowl and dry ingredients in another bowl. Slowly combine molasses mixture with dry ingredients adding only enough Molasses mixture to form a thick dough. Drop tablespoons of dough onto a greased cookie sheet, spacing cookies 1 inch apart and flattening slightly, to form portions about the size of a silver dollar. Bake for 1 hour, turn and bake for about 45 minutes, until crisp.  as per  www.hobbyfarms.com

For horses and all livestock, try;

Bull Cookies

4 cups uncooked, old-fashioned oatmeal

8 tablespoons of Flour

1/2 cup Molasses

3/4 cup water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix all ingredients together in a large mixing bowl. Stir until mixture is the consistency of thick cookie dough. Drop tablespoons of dough onto a greased cookie sheet, spacing cookies 1 inch apart and flattening slightly to form portions the size of a silver dollar. Bake for about 1 hour, until crisp.

Have A Great Thanksgiving!
