using more than 1 1/2" depth of Vita-Sand. Clean out debris as needed
with sifter, litter scoop, or spoon. Replace Vita-Sand if foul or musty
smell persists, or at least every six months.
Warning
If your animal has a propensity for consistent substrate ingestion, the manufacturer recommends that you:
- Check your husbandry by reading a good reptile book on your specific species, as this could be an indicator of other problems.
- Make sure you are using ZooMed's ReptiSun 5.0 UVB or PowerSun UV Lamp with your desert species of lizard or tortoise.
If consistent substrate ingestion persists, you may want to use ZooMed's ReptiCage Carpet instead.
Vita-Sand is not a replacement for dietary supplements.
Valentine76 revewing this Zoo Med Vita-Sand says: "My
10 year old son has had his Leopard Gecko for 7 years now and normally
we used an orange colored pebbly sand for the substrate. This time when
we needed to replace it we decided to see what other substrates Petco
carried that were suitable for a Leopard Gecko. We read the
descriptions on the different bags and types of substrates and decided
on the Zoo Med Vita Sand because it had vitamins in it and Puppysnake
often gets a mouthful when going after crickets. We bought a 10lb bag
of it and after cleaning out the tank, washing the water bowl and heat
rock etc I put the Vita Sand in tank and replaced all the items
normally in there. We then fed Puppysnake 2 dozen large crickets and as
usual he got a mouthful of sand. After about 1 our we went to check on
him and noticed he was more energetic and actually moving around
instead of just laying there like a statue. Its been about a month now
with using the Zoo Med Vita Sand and Puppysnake is still a very active
Gecko which thrills us. We LOVE the Zoo Med Vita Sand and from now on
will ONLY buy this when he needs his sand replaced!"
