Your Career Choice and Your Pet
Does the type of animal you own say anything about your career path?
According to a nationwide survey released by careerbuilder.com and conducted by Harris Interactive, pet ownership in relation to a person’s chose profession, compensation, and job satisfaction, goes hand in hand. More than 2,300 U.S. workers with pets were polled for the survey.
The findings were quite interesting. Workers with dogs were more likely to hold senior management positions, workers with snakes or other reptiles were more likely to earn six figures, and bird owners were more likely to be satisfied with their jobs.
In certain career paths, the survey found that owners of certain pets were more likely to report being drawn to certain professions:
–Dog owners were professors, nurses, IT professionals, military, and entertainers.
–Cat owners were doctors, real estate agents, lab technicians, machine operators, and personal caretakers.
–Fish owners were human resource professionals, financial advisors, hotel employees, farming/fishing/forestry workers, and transportation professionals, like truck driver.
–Bird owners were advertising professionals, sales reps, construction workers, and administrative professionals.
–Reptile owners were engineers, social workers, marketing and public relation workers, editors/writers, and police officers.
