BANJALUKA IAFF gives insight into the best short animated films from whole world. Started in 2008 is the oldest film festival in Banjaluka.

The interest for short animated film in Banja Luka was restored by a group of young filmmakers of the FENIX ART Association for Visual Arts in 2005. Like with the first festival, FENIX ART hosted a big retrospective of the Zagreb School of Animated Film with 44 selected films from the world-renowned animation school. Popularization of the short animated film continued in the following years at screenings which featured more than 300 animated films (Days of the Zagreb School of Animated Film – 2005, Animated Film Revue – 2006 and Days of Animated Film – 2007).

As a result of the aforementioned activities, conditions were created (audience, local scene of animators, support of the authorities) for the launch of the Festival, which had it’s first edition held in October 2008, with presence of some of the world’s greatest masters of animation – Jerzy Kucia, Piotr Dumala, Borivoj Dovniković – Bordo, Bill Plympton, Uzi and Lote Gefemblad. In addition to Banjaluka, since 2010, the Festival has been held simultaneously in six other cities of Bosnia and Herzegovina: Sarajevo, Trebinje, Tuzla, Bijeljina, Gradišci and Mrkonjić Grad, and thus this festival has become unique in the world, since at the same time it was held in all major cities of Bosnia.
